AAU holds Valedictory Thanksgiving, Commissions Campus Radio, Conference Centre – Nigerian Observer
EKPOMA – The Vice Chancellor of the Ambrose Alli University, (AAU), Ekpoma-Edo State, Prof. Ignatius Onimawo has held a thanksgiving service at St. Gregory Catholic Church, Ekpoma, to celebrate the successful conclusion of his tenure as vice chancellor of AAU.
Prof. Onomawo had earlier held a thanksgiving during the May edition of the Ambrose Alli University monthly Interdenominational Fellowship, known as AAU Prays, at the university campus.
The thanksgiving service was the climax of activities lined up to mark the successful end of Five-Year tenure of the vice chancellor which officially comes to an end on Tuesday May 11, 2021.
As part of the End of Tenure programme, a book titled: “Professor Ignatius Onimawo: Relentless Visionary & His Mission “, written by Dr. Emmanuel Egharevba, was presented, just as several projects, including the AAU Campus Radio and the International Conference/Students Centre, were commissioned.
Speaking to journalists, the out going AAU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ignatius Onimawo said the thanksgiving was to appreciate God for seeing him through thick and thin during his journey as vice chancellor, adding that despite stiff oppositions from detractors, God helped him to accomplish his goals.
He explained that during his tenure he succeeded in eliminating cultism; made examinations credible through the introduction of Computer Based Examination (CBE); changed the landscape of AAU by ensuring the construction of befitting infrastructures, including seven modern faculties, Theatre Arts Dance Studio and others; well equipped laboratories; renovation of hostels, among others.
He added that he introduced e-voting to eliminate violence during students union elections, ensured regular inaugural lectures, public lectures, faculty lectures; achieved ground breaking researches, achieved 100 per cent accreditation of courses by NUC and professional bodies; enhanced sports development, road infrastructure, and others.
He also appreciated the Edo State Government for completing the Modern and befitting Administrative Block for the university, during his tenure.
In his sermon, the Bishop of Uromi Diocese, His Lordship, Most Rev. Donatus Ogun, prayed God who guided the Vice Chancellor through thick and thin, to retain his smile after his tenure.
