Edo 2020: Group Asks Edo Central Zone To Reject Party Chairmanship Position

The Lagos State coordinator of the Edo Equity Movement, (EEM), Engr. Festus Aiwe has asked the people of Edo Central senatorial zone to forget the idea of vying for the position of the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Edo State chapter.

Edo Central is made up of the Esan ethnic nationality.

Engr. Aiwe stated this in Lagos on Friday while talking to pressmen at a ceremony where one of its members, Chief. Eugene Uwadiae was being honoured.

According to the Electrical electronic engineer, it will be most unfair for anyone in the PDP to encourage Esan people to settle for the chairmanship position when they should be talking about producing the next governor by 2020.

He said: “Esan man, Mr. Solomon Aguele was the party’s elected chairman, between 1999 and 2007, while it was the turn of Edo north from 2007 to 2015, but either by divine arrangement, commission or omission, Edo North is still holding the position and if the tenure ends this year, it is only natural that it goes to Edo South, which has eminent personalities who are capable of leading the party to its next level.

“Let me tell you, what is at stake here is the party’s candidate for the governorship position which is supposed to go to Edo central if there is equity and fair play in the party.”

The Ekpon, Igueben born politician insisted that it is time for Esan ethnic nationality to produce the governor and it will be foolishness on the part of Esan people to be seeking the chairmanship position when they can actually pick the party’s ticket and go for the top job.

According to Aiwe, “the Edo Equity movement has made its position known on this issue of governorship, our movement is for fair play and justice. It is the turn of Esan to govern Edo after 28 years of its existence.

“You will agree with me that the 18 months of Osunbor’s administration was the most turbulent months in our history as a state and as far as some of us are concerned, Esan people can’t be told to play second fiddle this time around.

“We will move against any Esan man working with other tribes in PDP to settle for chairmanship, because we are currently aware of the subtle campaign going on by 2 sons of Esan land that they should be supported to be chairman but we will resist them.”

OLIKA REPORTERS can recall that the Edo Equity Movement had earlier in the month of June, released a press statement where it hailed the ambition of Rice Man, Ken Imasuangbo, to govern the state from 2020, and also encouraged other Esan sons and daughters to come into the race from both APC and the PDP.
