Edo govt begins awareness campaign on inactivated polio vaccine …inspects Benin Airport, insists on strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols
BENIN CITY – The Edo State Government, on Friday, kicked off a fresh campaign to enlighten residents on the need to immunize their children with the Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV) to guarantee full protection against Polio Mellitus.
The Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, who flagged off the campaign in Benin City, led other top government functionaries and health practitioners on a sensitisation tour to major streets and markets across the metropolis, including Kings Square and Oba Market.
Shaibu, while speaking with the Edo women on the need to vaccinate their children, noted that the inactivated polio vaccine provides additional and rapid immunity that covers all three types of polioviruses.
He however urged them not to neglect the Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV), adding that a combination of both the OPV and IPV provide stronger protection for the children.
The deputy governor was also at the Benin Airport to check protocols put in place by the airport management to prevent the importation of the Delta variant of coronavirus (COVID-19) into the state.
Shaibu further spoke with cab operators at the airport to sensitise them on the new variant of COVID-19, urging them on the need to ensure strict compliance with preventive protocols to check the spread of the virus.
