Edo vaccinates over 33, 000 persons as active cases drop to one – Edo State

The Edo State Government has intensified its coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination campaign across the state’s 18 local government councils, vaccinating 33,108 persons with the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine in the first phase of the exercise.

Executive Secretary of the state’s Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Julie Erhabor, disclosed this during the daily virtual meeting of the State COVID-19 Taskforce, chaired by the State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.

Erhabor said the 33, 108 persons who have been vaccinated, represent 82 percent of the state’s 40,540 target population for the vaccination exercise, reassuring that the government has stepped up efforts at ensuring that all eligible members of the public are vaccinated.

She disclosed that the vaccinated persons include 9, 987 strategic leaders, 7, 400 health workers and 15,821 other frontline workers in various communities across the state.

Erhabor, however, charged the elderly and other eligible members of the public to avail themselves of the opportunity and get inoculated against the deadly virus in order to complement the government’s efforts at containing the pandemic and ensuring the safety of the people.

Meanwhile, the State COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi, noted that measures deployed by the government to flatten the curve of the second wave of the pandemic has continued to yield gains as active cases in the state have dropped to one with a steady decline in case positivity and fatality rates.

The Incident Manager said the state recorded three more recoveries from the virus, with no new case or death in the last 24 hours.

Obi noted that the 17 contingents for the National Sports Festival that tested positive to the virus have been managed and duly discharged from the Stella Obasanjo Hospital, adding that Edo has only one active case in all its treatment and isolation facilities.

He further charged residents with any COVID-19 symptoms to contact the Edo Emergency Operation Centre on this toll-free number: 08003625000 for assistance.
