PDP leaders in Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo state, over the weekend described the emergence of Engr Gideon Ikhine as one of the party’s governorship aspirants as an act of God. The visibly elated leaders were full of praises for Engr Ikhine when he paid unscheduled visits to some of them in their homes.
Welcoming the foremost aspirant to Esan Central on behalf of the leader of the local government, Senator Clifford Ordia who was unavoidably absent, the deputy leader, Most Senior Evangelist Adekunle Oboh, assured him of the total support of the leaders. Most Senior Evangelist Adekunle Oboh who is also The PDP state Financial Secretary, likened Engr Gideon Ikhine to the biblical Gideon who rose to lead the Israelites out of bondage in a critical period when all hopes were lost.
Most of the leaders expressed joy that a governorship aspirant would deem it fit to come down to the grassroot to ask for their support. According to them, the normal practice was for governorship aspirants to rely on the endorsement of one super leader or the other to get the ticket. With the actions of Engr Gideon Ikhine so far, he has truly returned power to the people they said. They praised the steadfastness of Engr Ikhine for not abandoning the party over the years and for his continuous support.
On his part, Engr Gideon Ikhine called on the people to have faith in the PDP. He assured the people that the days of the party being in opposition in Edo state will come to an end with his nomination as the governorship candidate. He said that his administration will focus on opening up Esanland by constructing and rehabilitating the roads, resuscitating the Ugbalo water works and creation of job opportunities for the people. He told the leaders that he is currently on sensitization visits of stakeholders across the state concerning his ambition to fly the PDP flag in the Edo state 2020 governorship election.
The leaders offered prayers for the success of Engr Gideon Ikhine and pledged their support towards the mission.
