France’s new culture minister Roselyne Bachelot said last week that there was a “broad consensus” among the public that Notre Dame should be rebuilt to look “identical” to how it did before last year’s fire. The announcement comes after months of debate over whether to reinvent the historic cathedral to include environmental and social innovations or maintain the traditional gothic appearance. Bachelot says that it is, ultimately, “the President (Emmanuel Macron) who will decide.”
