The Executive Chairman of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government, Dr. Eric Osayande has been scored high for his grassroots developmental initiatives

Wife of the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Mrs. Maryam Shaibu, who was special guest of honour, made the remark at the finals of the 2nd edition of Oba Ewuare II Cultural Dance Competition, a culture development initiative organized by the Osayande-led administration

Nine (9) Secondary Schools, including Ogunbor Secondary School, Itohan Girls Grammar School, Patricia Private School, St. Maria Goretti Girls Grammar School, former champion Niger College, Oman Secondary School, Aduwawa Secondary School, Ebe Foundation and Oka Secondary School contested for overall best at the grand finale held Monday 13th May, 2019 at St. Maria Goretti Girls Grammar School hall in Benin City the Edo State capital

At the conclusion of contests by the 9 schools, St. Maria Goretti was declared winner by the judges while Ogunbor and Oman clinched 2nd and 3rd respectively

While speaking at the event, Dr. Eric Osayande said “the essence of this event is to change the culture of our students; we want to change the culture of our students from that nefarious act because the best method to change the act of doing good in academics is either through religion or culture; so we are using culture to ensure that we contribute our own quota”

The Council Boss who commended Gov. Godwin Obaseki for providing technical, political and administrative leadership said “I thank His Excellency, the wake and see Governor for his support for us to do this and the provision of basic amenities in schools”

“Dr. Eric Osayande is a pace setter; last year I was here and when he told me of this year’s edition, I felt so much joy in my heart that truly Ikpoba-Okha is becoming a leading light amongst other local governments in Edo State; I will expect other local governments to do better” said Mrs. Shaibu

Chairman of the occasion, a retired Police Commissioner and the Osa of Benin Kingdom, Chief Johnson Usen hailed Osayande for his pro-culture and sports policy and sued for the sustainability of the initiative; Chief Usen said in his address “I want to thank the organizers of these events once again for the wellbeing of these students and pray it is made an annual event for the benefit of humanity and social developments”

The wife of the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Mrs. Maryam Shaibu, Commissioners for Women Affairs, Local Government, Arts, Culture, Tourism and Diaspora Affairs, Edo State, Chairman and Vice Chairman of Ikpoba-Okha Local Govt and their wives, Ovia South West Local Govt Chairman, Hon. Destiny Enabulele, Secretary to the Ikpoba-Okha Local Government, Barr. Osagie Igbinomwanhia, EDSOGPADEC Chairman and his Commissioners, Palace Chiefs, Enigie, Edo State APC Youth Leader, Hon Valentine Asuen, Speaker and Members of the Legislative Arm of the LGA, Supervisory Councillors of the LGA, Chairman, APC, Ikpoba-Okha, Party leaders from the LGA, SSAs to the Edo State Governor from the LGA, former SSA, Strategy and Politics to Comrade Adams Oshiomhole Hon. Aiyamenkhue Edokpolo, women and youth groups, representatives of Sterling, Zenith and Polaris Banks, staff of the Local Govt, representatives of the Nigeria Police Force, DSS, NSCDC, Road Safety and Vigilante Groups, judges from the Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Diaspora Affairs, representatives of KUfm, Speedfm, NTA, EBS, RayPower, Radio Nigeria, QuestTv, Observer, National Point News, Abuja, participating schools and their representatives, representatives of Benin Fundamental Movement and several other persons and groups were amongst dignitaries at the event

Meanwhile, the football aspect of the 2nd edition of the Oba Ewuare II Cultural Dance and Governor’s Cup competition is still ongoing
