NAPVID present N5.3m cheques, materials to special students in Edo – Nigerian Observer
Benin – The Network for the Advancement of Persons with Visible Disabilities (NAPVID) on Thursday presented cheques and educational materials worth N5.4million to cater for some physically challenged students in secondary and tertiary institutions in Edo state.
The cash and materials donation which is part of NAPVID education fund initiated in 2012 to support indigent pupils and students with disabilities, is a scholarship program to cater for their tuition and accommodation.
Speaking after the presentation at NAPVID’s Secretariat in Benin city, its executive director, Barr Melody Omosah, explained that the educational support is based on merit, as only those who are steadfast in their academic pursuit will continue to benefit from the program.
According to Omosah, “NAPVID assistance is not automatic; one is the indigent, secondly it’s not automatic. You have to work hard, you have to deserve what you get.
“You will continue to get support from NAPVID if you follow through with your academy with sheer hard work.”
Some of the beneficiaries, who could not hide their joy expressed appreciation to NAPVID for the continued support.
Highpoints of the occasion was the presentation of individual cheque to the benefitting students, and N4,703,000 cheque to the management of NAPVID hostel for the running of the facility.
