Reduce AAU School Fees, Make it accessible to the poor to keep Ambrose Alli dreams alive, EYM Charges Edo Government

Ekpoma 22 September, 2019

In the mood of the celebration of the life and times of Prof. Ambrose Alli, the legend of old Bendel State, the Esan Youths Movement (EYM) the apex youth body in Esanland has charged Government of Edo State led by H.E. Mr Godwin Obaseki to reduce the school fees of Ambrose Alli University to keep his dream and passion alive 30 years after his death.

In his sojourn as first executive governor of Old Bendel State, Prof Ambrose Alli only passion and drive was to make life easy for the people in all area of human endeavour. He did not amass wealth for his children or build massions in his name. All he wanted was to make education, health and housing accessible to the people no matter the status in life.

It is therefore painful that 30 years after his death, all the passion and drives that he fought for even at the cost of his life has been left to wrought in decadence.

The university named after his own precious name is now only for the children of the rich locking out the ivory tower against the children of the have-nots by charging exulbitant fees. This was against the dreams of the selfless leader who believed education was the only tool to liberate a people. In his time as governor, he made education free and compulsory at all level including books and food. Till date no one has broken that record.

To make his soul happy in heaven and to fulfill his dreams for the poor, Esan Youths Movement hereby call on the Edo State Government to reduce the fees of the University named after a man who sacrifice his life for the help of the downtrodden. It is not Ambrose Alli University if the poor cannot attend it. It is against the principles that the legend fought for all his life” EYM says.
