Residents express hope, optimism as Edo celebrates 30th anniversary tomorrow – Nigerian Observer

Edo residents are in a jubilant mood as the state, tomorrow, Friday, August 27, 2021, celebrates the 30th anniversary of the state’s creation after the split of old Bendel State into Edo and Delta states, in 1991.

The celebration is expected to commence with a live broadcast on national and local television and radio stations by Governor Godwin Obaseki, who is slated to kick-off a tree-planting campaign, in line with the government’s reforestation initiative of planting ten million trees in the next ten years.

The ceremony, which was significantly scaled down in line with the state’s COVID-19 regulations, will also feature an online celebration by Edo people in Diaspora on Saturday, August 28, 2021.

A cross section of elated residents, who spoke with journalists in Benin City, noted that the 30th anniversary is a celebration of hope for a better Edo, where all citizens’ lives and security are guaranteed, with assurances for the realization of their fullest potentials.

A resident in Ekehuan Road axis of Benin City, Mr. Emmanuel Omozuwa, said: “I am very excited that 30 years after the creation of our dear Edo, we are still united as a state and people, working collectively for sustainable development, progress and growth of our state.

It is my sincere hope that the 30th-anniversary celebration would usher in even more progress, greater prosperity and endearing fulfillment for all our people.”

Another resident, Aisosa Igbinovia noted: “The 30th anniversary of Edo State is a worthwhile celebration, considering the much that we have achieved in a short while.

Though we are yet to get to our desired destination, I want to encourage all Edo people to be hopeful of a better future for the Edo Nation.

“Most importantly, with a technocrat like Governor Godwin Obaseki at the helm of affairs, the state is on the path for even sustainable development, especially with the government’s Making Edo Great Again (MEGA) plan; a 30-year blueprint that outlines how the government intends to realize the vision of a vibrant state for the next 30 years of the state’s existence.”

“We are confident that the realization of the MEGA plan, which touches on all aspects of governance and socio-economic life of the state, including peace and security, economy, trade and investment, law and order, arts, culture and diaspora affairs, environmental sustainability, urban and regional planning, among others, will place the state on the world map for good,” a lawyer, Mrs. Blessing Omoruwa, said.
