The annual Sony World Photography Awards Open Competition selects the best single images in categories including travel, landscape, architecture and street photography. These are some of the winners from this year:

Vietnamese photographer Khanh Phan won the travel category for an image of a woman surrounded by drying fish taken at Long Hai fish market in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Vietnam.

Spanish photographer Juan LΓ³pez Ruiz won the landscape category for capturing the moment lightning struck over a field of lavender.

German photographer Klaus Lenzen won the architecture category for his image of a staircase at the Hyatt hotel in Dusseldorf, which appears to be floating.

Turkish photographer F. Dilek Uyar was named the winner of the street photography category with this photo of a worker disinfecting a railway platform in Ankara.
