There is no such thing as a “safe” level of drinking alcohol, with increased consumption associated with poorer brain health, according to a new study from the University of Oxford. The study involving 25,000 people found that the more alcohol consumed, the more the volume of the brain’s gray matter decreased, said lead author Anya Topiwala, a senior clinical researcher at Oxford. “Smaller brain volume also predicts worse performance on memory testing,” she explained.
